tutorial 3 section 3

In this section we will complete the basic book case.  In this instance we placed the shelves in dados but you may prefer to use holes and shelf pins to make the shelves adjustable.

In the previous section we cut the dados and positioned the shelves.  Now we will complete the face frame.  In this design the stiles will be 2 inches wide and the rails will be 4 inches, this will provide space for crown molding at the top and baseboard at the bottom.

The picture below is where we left off last time.

First select the left stile, right click and select edit component.  This opens the component for editing.  To avoid unnecessary repetition for the balance of this tutorial the instruction will simply be; open the component.  With the stile open use the push pull tool and pull the stile up 71 inches.  The right stile should follow.

Now select the bottom rail and open the component.  Now pull the top edge up 4 inches.  The top edge of the rail should be flush with the top of the bottom shelf

See picture,

Now close the bottom rail component. Click on it to select it but do not open it.  Using the move tool click the upper left corner of the rail.  Press and release the control key to create a copy, and drag the copy to the top.  Make sure the top of the rail is in alignment with the top of the stiles.  (Zoom in if necessary.)

Now using the orbit tool rotate the drawing as necessary click on the ¼ inch back and using the push pull tool drag the back up 71 inches.   The back should be in the rabbet in the two sides as shown.

Rotate the drawing back around to a front view and the picture should look like this.

This is the end of section three.  Save your drawing.
