I looking at building a new computer and was thinking about installing sketch up on it.   I was just wondering if sketch up will read and edit Auto CAD .dwg files?  The computer that I run off of now has Auto CAD and I don't want to lose all my drawings that were made in Auto CAD.

depends on what version of ACAD you have... there are issues trying to convert DWG's in Auto 2010 and 2007... so find a either a batch converter software (DWG/DXF to PDF) or DWG/DXF reader and install it as a library to yur sketchup...

I run Auto Cad 2000.  Wow..... I've had this computer a long time.

Now I just need to find where I can download the free version of sketch up.  So far I've just been finding free trial versions that are good for 8 working hours.

Ok one last thing.  Will SU brake you 3D model down into a three view drawing or plan view drawing?  Or is it just a 3D application that gives you and or a client something that's better to look at than just a 2D drawing.
