There are a few of these add-on programs (called plug ins ) which provide layout patterns and cut lists for your drawings. The one that I use is from the lumber-jocks website. It is a free download. This is a link to the site
http://lumberjocks.com/daltxguy/blog/5143 the latest version is 4.0.7
I was wondering if others are using it, and how you like it?

GG,
I've just started using it on simple projects simply to find out how it works.
I can't say it will help me in the work I do, but I want to know how and what it will do just because I use SketchUp so much.
Best regards,
d

Jut want to say thanks George, for putting the link for the cutlist plugin. I had been wondering where to get a cutlist for sketchup then your post came up and its a free one to boot. Took me about 2 weeks to get it working (I'm on a Mac), had to have my son show me how to put it in the plugin directory but we couldn't get it working. Emailed Steve who wrote the program and over 6 or 7 emails he found the problem and it is now up and running. Now I have play with it and figure out what does what!! So again thank you, thoroughly enjoyed your tutorials on sketchup. Please check out my version of a Stickley Sideboard, let me know what you think.

GG,
I dowloaded the cut list plugin jsut now and tried it. I have a simple model of a wall cabinet (without doors so far). I am building it in plywood, but the cutlist assumed I was using solid lumber. How do i identify in my model that the parts are plywood?

Steve,
There are key words that identify your parts as sheet goods. These are sheet, veneer, plywood, hardboard and MDF. If you use one of these words in the name of the materials you are using in your drawing it will we identified as sheet goods. You can also use one of these key words in the component name.
In my case I seldom apply named materials to shop drawings. So when I create my components, I give them names such as "plywood end" or "MDF top". When creating components you are given the opportunity to name them, if you just hit enter the components are named component 1, component 2, etc. If your drawing is already complete you can edit the component name. Just right click on the component, then click entity info. All parts must be made into components in order to be recognized by the cutlist plug in.
Let me know if this works for you.

I just want to add to what George said, Be very sure every discreet part is a component. If any are not they will not be accounted for in the cut list.
