Tutorial 2 section 3

This is section 3 of the second tutorial

We have placed the leg components and the apron components, now it is a simple matter to pull them into shape.  An important thing to remember about components is;  When a component is open and you change it,  all components of the same name automatically change as well.

Using the select tool right click on one of the apron boards, select edit component.  Now using push pull, pull the apron board up 3 inches.  All four boards change, the picture should look like the one below

Now with the select tool right click off the table and select close component.  Next right click on one of the legs and select open component, now take the push pull tool and pull the leg up 23 inches.  Now close the leg component by clicking off the table with the select tool and select close component.  Now the table should look like the picture below.

Now right click on one of the legs and select hide. And orbit and zoom so that you get a view like the one below.

This view shows the right end of one apron board and the left end of the other.  We are now going to put the tennons on the apron boards.  First right click on the board on the left.   Open that component, put a guide mark on the piece at the edge ½ inch down from the top.  Now draw a line across the end, ½ inch down.  Next put a guide mark ¼ inch over from the left edge on the line.  Next, using the rectangle  tool, starting at the previous guide point draw a rectangle ¼ inch wide and 2 inches high on the end of the piece.  Use the push pull tool and pull the tennon out ¾ of an inch.  Now delete the guide line and guide marks and close the component.  Open the component on the right hand apron board and repeat the above procedure to put a tennon on the left end of this piece.  Make sure all components are closed and zoom out a bit , your picture should look like the one below.

Now if you hide the legs you will see that all the tennons on all the apron boards have been created.

The only thing left is to complete the legs.  Hopefully you have enough knowledge to do that on your own.  First click edit, unhide, all.  All the legs should re appear.  Hide the apron boards open one leg component and taper  the leg on the two inside edges.  Then place the mortises on those same edges.  Your table should now look like the one below.

That is the end of this section.  In the last section we will discuss some methods of displaying and printing showing the joinery.

Please let me know if you made it through  OK.
