OK here we go again. We’ll just call this tutorial 2.
We are building a table of the same dimensions as the original tutorial, but this time we are using components and showing joinery. If you have not done the first tutorial you should do it first. This one will build on what was communicated in the first one.
First make the table top, but make it 23 ½ inches square and 1 inch thick. Use the rectangle and push pull tools. You will see why we made it ½ inch smaller shortly.
Now orient the top so that you are looking at the bottom side. Use the select tool (arrow) and click somewhere outside the top. As you move the tool you will see that it makes a box. Now make a box completely around the Table top but not touching it . When you click and close the box the top will be selected. All edges will turn blue. Now while the top is selected, click the component tool, Type in the name Top and click create. The table top is now a component.
Next draw a 2 inch square in the upper left corner (see picture)
Now we will make another component. Using the select tool make a box around the two inch square and click to select it. Only the 2 inch square should be selected Click the component tool, type in the name leg and click create. Now that it is a component you should be able to select it just by clicking the select tool on one of the lines. All four sides should highlight.
With the leg selected. We are now going to use the move tool to make copies. Select the move tool and click on the upper left corner of the 2 inch square. Press and release the control key and a small plus sign appears near the move symbol. You will now be moving the copy. Move it over to the upper right corner of the table (see picture)
It should appear outside the table as shown. We are now going to rotate the leg into position this will orient the leg properly. The second leg should be selected if not select it. Click on the rotate tool then click on the corner that is the upper right corner of the top and the upper left corner of the leg. You should now see a protractor. Move the mouse to the left and click, now when you move the mouse you should see the leg rotate. Rotate the leg 90 degrees clockwise. (YOU CAN ENTER 90 IN THE LITTLE BOX).
Leave the second leg selected, take the move tool, click the outside (upper right) corner, press and release the control key, move the copy to the next corner and click. Rotate the leg into position as before. Follow the same procedure for the last leg. The picture should look like this.
If you just placed the legs in the corners it will drive you crazy later. You must have the outside corner of all the copies in the proper corner. If you rotated them into position you will be ok.
Zoom in on the original leg (upper right corner) so the picture looks like the one above. Right click on the leg and select edit component. Using the tape measure tool put a guide mark on the right edge of the leg ¼ inch from the table top. (See picture)
Now if you look at the other three legs you will see that they all have a guide mark along one edge. (See picture)
The guide marks should be in the locations shown on the legs. If not you probably made a mistake copying or rotating the legs. Now use the select tool and right click somewhere off the table. When the box comes up select close component.
If the guide marks are not in the locations shown you can rotate them. Select the leg, now using the rotate tool rotate the leg to the proper orientation them make sure it is moved into position. You really should practice until you feel comfortable with both moving and rotating.
END OF SECTION 1 Save your work
This one was very difficult to explain, please give some feedback. Did it work for you??

Hi George,
Although I am sure it will become clear in the next lesson, at the moment it is unclear as to what I should have at the end of this lesson. This is what I have at the moment:
Is this the correct position of the guide lines?

Mike it looks like you put guidelines, not guide marks on the legs. the picture above (the last picture in the lesson) is what you should have right now
