Tutorial 1 section 7

Well if you have made it this far you can now put the final touches on the drawing.

First get the table loaded and make sure dimensions are turned off and layer 1 is the current layer.  See previous section if you need a reminder how to do  this.  Now click on the paint bucket tool.  A dialog box will appear with a couple of color and texture palates , since the table is made of wood we need more than just color, we also need grain texture.  In the upper portion of the box, in the selection window, it should say “wood”.  If not click the arrow and scroll down to wood and click.  At this point you will have a selection of several wood colors and textures in the upper portion of the box.  Select the one that you want to use.  Now move the paint bucket tool to any surface and click. You will see that surface change color.

Continue to click on different surfaces they will take on the texture of the selected grain pattern.  See first picture.  Now continue to click on all the table surfaces. You will need to zoom in and out and rotate the view to get a look at all surfaces.  Once you have changed all surfaces your picture will look like picture 2.

Looks pretty good, but if you want to get particular you will notice that the grain may be running in the wrong direction on some surfaces.  Foe example, the grain in the picture above is running vertical (up and down) on the apron boards, let’s change it to horizontal.

Use the select tool and click the surface of one of the apron boards, now right click, a box opens.  Move the mouse to texture, at the bottom of the box and click position.  Now the texture superimposes over the picture.  There will also be, four colored boxes with pins beside them.  It may be necessary to zoom out to see all four boxes.  Now click on the pin beside the green square and hold the mouse button down, you will see a protractor and you can rotate the texture with the mouse.  When you get the grain direction the way you want it click the selection tool again and it will go back to the drawing.

You can follow the same procedure to change the grain on any surface you wish, such as board edges.

To get a picture that looks like this last this last picture click view on the toolbar.  If axes is checked, un check it, this will get rid of the red, green, and blue axes lines.  Check shadows.  You can also experiment with different edge and face styles and pick what you like.

Well that’s it for our table, congratulations if you made it this far,  you can probably do some basic shop drawings now,  We have not even scratched the surface of what this program will do.

I would like to see pictures of your tables and get feedback on how many want to try something else.
