saved mirror

I screwed up today.  I turn my mirror body's in reverse so I can turn from the middle to the outboard side.  This lets me turn down hill with the grain and I have the tool handle against my body for better control.    I usually snug the chuck up against the spindle and then use the chuck key to tighten it further.  This has worked quite well over the years.   Today I forgot to tighten it.  It came unscrewed and forced the wood against the tool rest burning the wood.    burned-mirror.jpg

I was able to save the mirror.  I turned away the burned marks and then added beads to the backside.

Re: saved mirror

Looks like you fixed the screw up very well. Do you cut your own mirror or have it done? Maybe it's part of a kit?

Re: saved mirror

Russ   I buy my mirrors in quantity from a company called TRipar.  They have a $120 minimum order but I go through that many in a year so it's not too bad.  I use 4" mirrors mostlly but have used 2" and 3" .  A friend who just quit making the smaller mirrors gave me about 50 blanks so I've got to order some of that size.
