Your going to need the mechanism, blanks, and some forstner bits. You can check them out and look at instructions at various sites that sell the mechanisms. Woodturners Catalog, PSI, or just do a Google search.

Yes the instructions that come with the mechinism is a great start. A four jaw chuck is a big help. I've made several dozen and found that a good spade bit is much better than a forstner for the main cavity.

You need to look in the old forum, find william Young blogs for show and tell on peppermill. Then you need to contact him, I'm sure he will give you detail instructions. Actually I hope he post the instruction for all of us. Ron Marietta Ga

Check out issue #164, September 2005 of wood magazine. There's an excellent pepper and salt mill plan in that issue. I've made many peppermills using those instructions. Very clear and easy to follow...Peppermills are quite fun to make!!
Good Luck

I have actually not had any formal training or seen any tutorials on making pepper mills. I got my instructions from the CSUSA site where I get the hardware from and got some tips from pepper mill makers on another site. .
Here are the instructions and measurements that I used . I never made a tutorial on these. They are pretty straight forward and easy to make. I made them on a Jet 1220 mini lathe before I got my Laguna 18/47 Platinum Series equivalent lathe.

I have only made about a dozen of them and they have all been 10" ones. .
Here are a few of them.

Martin, Newwoodworker.com has on-line instruction and he offers a DVD at minimum cost. You can check it out here http://www.newwoodworker.com/turning/trnppml.html

That is a real good one Ron.
Thanks for posting that. It is much better than the PDF print out that is available from the parts suppliers.
