Incense burner for a wise man

An older friend who had to quit turning asked me to make this for him.  He is going to be a wiseman for a Christmas show and needed a gold incense burner.  He's going to paint it and glue some jewels on.  I had a ball making it for him.  I think this is basswood but that log has been out back for so long I've forgotten.  It's about 11" tall and very thin.   I'm not sure the Wisemen had burners made with Spectra rope so he'll have to change that.Incense-burner.jpg

Yes  Everything is wood.  I turned the rings for the ropes out of flat wood about 1"  wide 3/8" thick and 3" long.  I turned the lollipop shape and then drilled the flat side to produce the holes.

Now there's something you don't see every day.

Great piece!

For some reason I never would have thought of turning the "lollipops" that way.  Thanks for the tip.
