Well I went ahead and ordered a G0490. After talking John into it it was the only reasonable thing to do! Now I have to do the waiting part; I hate that!!

I didn't have to wait long! I placed my order on the 11th and picked it up at the terminal yesterday. I've got the base set up and will have the table on it tonight. A word of caution, however. The set up instructions tell you to open the base carton and rotate it onto its side. CHECK THE BOLTS holding the motor in place for shipping before you do. Only one of mine was actually fastened, and loosely at that. The other was floating around in the box. Had I just flipped it, the motor might have continued onto the garage floor.
I have not opened the crate with the table yet, since it's still on my truck and the banding holds the pallet supports in place. I want those to remain until we get it off the truck and onto the sawhorses in the garage. Provides hand/finger clearance to lift it. The instruction manual may be in that crate, but I've been using the one downloaded from their website.

Thanks John! I ordered mine today in hopes that I would get it by Tuesday before the holiday. I'm only about an 8 hour drive from the closest Griz showroom, so I'm hoping. Good to know about the bolts holding the motor. I actually read another account from someone else who said the same thing happened to him. I'll have to see how that goes. I'll also have to call up a couple of friends to help lift the thing. Pretty excited; I think this is officially the most expensive tool I've bought for the shop to date.

I know it was for me! All I did for the bolts was cut away the carton (it's shipped upside down), lift and block the cabinet and reinsert the bolts and secure the nuts. A little tricky trying to hold bolt and place nut, so I put another block under the bolt head to hold it until I got the nut seated. Once rotated on its side, I placed a pad of short 4x4's on the motor mount braces and then lowered the motor onto that as I removed the bolts. Then, had the wife pull the pad while I held the motor and then put it in place. The two bolts that hold it for shipping get used to attach it to the mounting. Actually not as complicated as it sounds.
The switch pedestal is already wired in and is with the base. You need to be a little careful with that while moving the base around since it doesn't get attached until you get the table on. It bolts to that.
Mine came from the Muncie, PA showroom warehouse.

I did in fact get the 4 knife head. I may want to replace it with a byrd someday, but for now it was just too much more to get the other cutterhead. It came down to whether to buy the 6" with spiral, or 8" without. I think I will be pleased with my decision! I can always add spiral to my 8". I couldn't add 2" to a 6.

Yep, sound thinking to me. I heard the install on the Byrd head was a breeze. I sure would like to get a hands-on experience with one of those carbide insert heads.
Anyways, good luck with it, buddy.![]()
