Delta BOSS

My Delta Boss Sander just quit working after minimal use. I have had it for about 5 years and barely used it. The motor just quit. Has anyone else experienced this? I am looking for amither sander but have heard other places having complaints against the Delta

Re: Delta BOSS

I have a Delta BOSS and haven't had any problems with it. I've had it for about 5 years or so, and use it at least once a week. You may have a bad (sanding dust impacted) switch, though. Also since the motor rides up and down with the spindle, the cord between the switch and the motor may have a broken conductor. It also may have a bad starting capacitor.

I wouldn't chuck the whole thing without first investigating thoroughly. The motor can be rewound if necessary.

I looked at both the Delta & Ridgid & decided to wait & save money & purchase the Jet bench top I haven't been sorry.

I forgot I had made another purchase a few years before that has been very handy a G1014Z combination sander. The plywood table is held on by c-clamps through holes on the right & left side this allows me to sand items that may stick out over the sanding disk. I purchaed it when it cost $200 I was just at Grizzly the other day & it now costs $399.

Re: Delta BOSS

I've had the BOSS for a number of years.  I'd say at 5 years at the very least.  No problems at all.

That said, if I were to buy another OSS, I would at least investigate one with a tilting table.  Sticker shock may prevent me from actually getting one, but I would at least look.

Re: Delta BOSS

I have the Ridgid. No problems what so ever. The belt sander part is VERY hard to ignore. I even use it for a quick sharpening of lathe tools.

Re: Delta BOSS

Checked everything and motor is bad  it is a 1/4 hp. not worth rewinding. Bigger question, would you buy another one or a floor model  I was looking for Delta's floor model but can not find it. Any thoughts???

I think Russ is right on with the Ridgid.  I have read many positive testimonials pertaining to the Ridgid and at $200 buck, ya can't go wrong.  I have been waiting for the right project to come along before I pull the trigger on that one....but it is on my short list.

Looking closer to the Rigid. The review sounded good.

Re: Delta BOSS

Grizzly has a nice spindle sander for a reasonalbe price both a bench top and floor model. Jet is another model I would consider. And another thing to keep in mind given the current economey I would think about making your purchase closer to the near future than say ina year or 2 down the road, Inflation is sure to come are way and as you may know will definately raise the cost of machinery and other tools over night, Not that I'm trying to scare you or others but it's simple math, gold goes up and our dollar goes down with translates into less buying power of the almighty dollar.
