Boring machine bits

I have an opportunity to buy a Rodgers Manufacturing boring machine model 91.  It's an old machine and I don't know and can't find the manufacturer on the internet.  I like the machine but it doesn't have a bit chuck.  There are a few bits with the machine and they are threaded on one end and screw into a mechanism where you would expect a chuck to be.

Does anyone know where I can buy drill bits that are threaded on the non drilling end?

Thanks in advance

Re: Boring machine bits

A machine shop?  Seems like somewhere on the net should have it, but if not, you should be able to get your local machine shop to add threads to just about anything.  The only problem you might run into would be the hardness of the metal they use for drill bits.  Otherwise you could just buy an appropriate sized tap die and make the threads that way.

Cheerio!

Re: Boring machine bits

Bill,

Chucks for boring machines are commonly threaded as you describe. Freud options for chucks are here:

And the bits are here:

Re: Boring machine bits

These type of bits are threaded on one end. The machines they fit are called Horizontal boring machines. The heads can be for 1, 2. 3, or more. Grizzly has the machine, and bits. Woodworkers Supply has the machine and bits. Delta makes the machine and sells the bits. I have a two head Lobo machine that all these bits will fit.
