Remember, Iggy the trained shop monkey is part CHIMP, not a CHUMP. Here's what our simian friend has come up with...

The top five reasons to use a wipe on finish:

  1. No runs, no drips, no errors.  The thinned finish flows easily and leaves a much nicer surface with no brush marks or sags.
  2. Thinned finish dries faster than thicker brush-on finishes, leaving less time for dust, crud and monkey fur to land on the drying varnish.
  3. The application process will give you lots of time to practice that back rub technique you wanted to try out on your spouse.
  4. Rags are cheap... high quality brushes to apply a finish cost money you could be spending on more lumber.
  5. By using solvents, varnishes and oils, you can custom blend your finish at home to suit your particular needs instead of relying on a manufacturer to hit the exact mix.
