Gimme Five with the Shop Monkey - Why you should build a workbench

So, the other day, Iggy was bragging about the bench he was building. I asked him if it had a face vice, dog holes, end vise...
He looked at me with that strange look he gets and told me he was building a bench... you know, the kind you sit on in a park.
Boy, am I the dumb monkey!
Before Iggy started cutting the 6,000 mortises required to finish this bench, he handed me this week's list.
The top five reasons why you should have a real work bench in your shop:
- You'll be talking like a pirate (Arrrrrr! Me back is killin' me!) after a hard day of woodworking on the floor.
- Your bench can be a real muti-tasker in the shop. It can serve as a table saw outfeed table, tool storage, assembly table... the list can go on for a while.
- You can trick out your custom workbench and bring it down to the bench drag races where you can REALLY show it off to the crowd.
- A solid workbench won't gallop across the floor as you try to hand plane on it. In fact, if you are having problems with hand planing or other hand tool techniques, it's best to check your bench first... your light and rickety bench may be the issue.
- Building your workbench is excellent practice for building other projects for your home. Get out there, build yourself a great bench and learn some killer techniques.
