Elm Towel Chest

by on 10-22-2009 01:10 PM - last edited on 10-22-2009 01:10 PM

This was the first completed wwing project of the 2009 season.  It’s a towel chest that I designed for our bathroom made mainly of red elm….just in time for our 27th anniversary, though it was never initially intended as an anniversary gift, it was indeed made with my bride in mind.  The doors and drawer sides are ash. The drawer has hand cut dovetails, the sides are frame and panel…nothing too fancy, but the tenons on the cross braces are a sliding dovetail for extra strength. The stain is a combination of golden oak, cherry, and early American.

Fantastic work.  I think Elm is a spectacular wood, easy to work, flowing grain and good natural color.  Too bad it doesn't get more credit.  Keep up the good work.
