"Frogs" on the road

There is a stretch of county road, between two state roads, that some think they are on the Interstate.   Road is about two miles long, very hilly, with two inter-sections along it.   Center lines are WELL marked where one can and cannot PASS.   Speed limit is 55 mph.     Why is it, that some "drivers" think this road is either  I-75, or Talledega Raceway?    The other day, one of these "drivers"  decided that others who drive along at about 60mph, are too slow.   "Driver" decides to pass  all and any who get in his way.  This includes going "two-wide" on a county road AT intersections, and while going uphill too boot!   And, IF someone is coming down the hill, YOU have to go in the ditch to avoid a three-way head-on crash.  BTW, NO "county-mounties" are EVER seen on this little dragstrip.  Also, semis also drive on this road, rather than going through a nearby town ( with a cop).   Anybody else have one of these "raceways" on the way to work?:smileymad:

Re: "Frogs" on the road

I live on the south end of a small town, and the road is "residential, 25 mph." There used to be several people who thought it was OK to speed up to 45-50 mph. I called the sheriff but no action. The Town Council is equally  ineffective. When I noticed speeders, I walked out to the road and raised my arms, asking "why?". Some slowed down. For those who refused to slow down, I raised the "Bird" as they streaked by. I'm known locally as "that crazy man". Very few speeders now.

Re: "Frogs" on the road

I used to live on a residential road that folks were prone to speed on. I got a piece of gutter down spout about a foot long and stuck a piece of 1 x 2 in the side about a fourth of the way from one end. I painted it flat black and put a piece of cardboard in the other end and painted a light gray disk in the middle and two white dotsnear the top. I taped a flash unit from my wifes camera on top. It could be fired by touching the wire to the base. I then would sit outside with my "radar camera" and a clipboard and if someone came through faster than I thought prudent I would "clock him and get his picture" and pick up the empty clipboard. It was amazing how quickly traffic, and especially fast traffic, just about died on my street. I even got a visit from a local cop and he about choked laughing at my "radar camera" and gave me no more than a thumbs up as he walked away laughing and shaking his head.

[ Edited ]

Funny, I was talking to a friend the other day, who lives in a retirement community in Florida. why he calls himself a "frog".   He said it is because he is going to stay there until he "croaks" :smileyvery-happy:

Re: "Frogs" on the road

Around these parts "Frogs" are these who jump from lane to lane as fast as they can.    On the east side of  Marysville, Ohio, there is a stretch of U.S. 33.    Four lanes mean you.   And where 33 crosses St. Rt. 36 with a bridge, things can get a bit "rough" at 65mph.    I was east bound on this bridge, passing a semi ( going HIS speed limit, 55mph) when a "Frog" decided he just had to pass.    That stretch at the bridge had a bit of "berm", so, this frog decided to pass the semi on the right.   Ok, so far.  Now the "fun" part.  There is also an ON-RAMP at the east side of the bridge,  with traffic coming on this divided highway.    He just made it, at about 85mph, somehow avoiding sideswiping the semi, and two vans coming onto the highway.   Yep, Frogs around here are not an indangered species, but they SHOULD BE!   They don't like "threewide" at NASCAR, but so see it all the time on the roads around here.    The "bad part" about THIS frog, was that he had just got off work at Honda.
