it's been 40 years since...

The first episode of Sesame Street started.

That's ten years before Norm.

How many of you can relate to this show? How many times provided you that extra half hour in the shop while kids watched the show?

Better yet, with which character do you ID the best? Does it reflect you?

Any related story you'd like to share?

Cheers,

Tony

Whew!  I grew up with Sesame street, I remember Sesame street was my babysitter many a day at home with mom working on this or that.  And back then, it sure seemed like it was an all day thing, not just a half hour.

My kids don't watch too much of anything, my youngest boy age 5 used to watch it at times, but he just never got interested in it. He'd rather be outside chasing the dogs or falling off the tree house.  Now we do have "Little House on the Prairie" that all my kids just love.  And that is really cool, I grew up with that family myself, and it is one of the greatest all time family productions around.  I believe it might be the last one too until all the stupid anti family crap came out on the airwaves.  There isn't anything close to that nowadays.

Can you believe that "Little House" actually was a prime time hit!!!   It played every Thursday at 8pm.  And the whole family sat down to watch it.  Now you got this reality show crap, teen sex shows, etc, that as a family we just cannot sit down and watch a single prime time show anymore.

I believe Little House on the Prairie went by the wayside because there were too many inferences of God and prayer, too many family values were boxed up in that 1 hr window on Thursday nights that the Hollywood elite big thinker just couldn't deal with it, or couldn't understand it.

So, my kids get Little House re-runs, and my older girls both 9 and 12 get Hannah Montana, another value conscience show for family.  Both shows the kids love.

At night when we get the urge to turn on the TV as a family, we will gravitate towards the classics channel, Andy Griffith and Opie,  Bonanza, slap stick humor from the old Get Smart.  Other then that, TV for family is non existent.

Good subject Tony, sorry I got off on a tangent, but yeh, I used to love Sesame St, and I am so very glad to know it is still around.

Oh yeah which character do I identify with the most?  It would have to be Cookie Monster, lets just leave it at that shall we.

My kids never got into Sesame Street and neither did I. My wife loved "The Electric Company"

But with Thanksgiving, I always do like to remember "Seasame Street"

Yep, raised two kids on Sesame Street. They learned a lot from that show and the wife and I learned as well. WE missed a lot of other shows because, " I WANT TO WATCH BIG BIRD" was always heard around our house.

The wife would say I am the cookie monster.

Others would likely say I am Oscar the Grouch.:smileymad:

I was just back from Vietnam and wondered what the heck is this?  Later my kids and I got alot of good stuff from it.  Soon, my grandchild will also get the benifit of common sense education. Kudos to PBS...still my goto TV channel

Well, you big cookie eater, John.... LOL

Thanks for the lovely story. I, too, remember the Little House On The Prairie. I also remember when aka. Little Joe, Michael Landon, came on Johnny Carson show to introduce new 2 hour special which then became an hour a week series. And what a series it was. The whole family got glued to TV and not a one show was missed. I do agree with you 110% there are no fine family shows anymore.

I reach for remote way too often to find something to smile about or get interested in. Hallmark would have some very nice shows now and then. And I search for oldies like Bing Cosby, Bonanza, The Big Valley, and if lucky I run into Rowan and Martin Laugh-In, or Dean Martin Roasts.

There were times I would schedule date for 8:30 pm just so that I can watch Newlyweds Game.... hehehe Bob was just too funny.

I like all of the Seasame Street characters but Oscar made me laugh the most.

Tony
