A real head-scratcher..

In 24 hrs I'll have a crew here to remove/replace eleven windows in my house, followed shortly thereafter by having the house sheathed in vinyl siding.

So... riddle me this, Batman:   When you've got a modestly sized (read: small) house, where do you actually PUT everything that has to be all pulled away from all of the windows?

Why am I suddenly envisioning Richard Dryeyfus's living room in Close Encounters of the Third Kind?    There's going to be this big... PILE... of everything in the center of mass of the house, while the windows get replaced.

Wheeeeeee.   Lucky me!

You might want to pray for no rain or snow in the Chicago area also. Hope they can get the windows done in one day, because it looks like rain is in your forecast for the weekend!!

Call Habitat for Humanity and ask them over when the crew is removing the old windows.

Re: A real head-scratcher..

Work starts in the morning, to be buttoned up by end of day Saturday.   Siding starts Monday.   The company owner just stopped by a little while ago to do a last double-check on the colors, etc, just to be sure/to be sure/to be sure.   I LIKED that.

Forescast.... 55-60° and sunny Friday and up until evening on Sat.    That, and no bugs means it's a nice day to have the house opened up.

They're going over wood T111 panel siding that's on the house now.   So it's pretty much a slam-dunk.

The front exposure has applied batten boards to kinda/sorta/not really almost look like a Tudor.  They'll be removed and that'll make the field elevation be right for the 1/2" foil-backed insulation and then the siding.     That maneuver happens all the time in this neighborhood.  I'll be the.... fourth or fifth house on the block to get siding this year.   My neighbor to the right just had his done in August.    All the houses were built the same year and they're all experiencing the same sort of sheathing failures.   And so we're all giving the siding companies lots of work.

I'm tired of painting, the T111 is rotting in a few places, and the soffits and facias always get pretty beat up.

The house was built in September of '71 and things are rotting and failing.   It's time.

This is the west exposure.   The back of the house is the southern exposure and it's really pretty tough from the sun (no trees to shade the house).

OOh.. yeah.  The only thing left to do is to install the lights that I bought last night and for them to come back and install the shutters (the first set was sized wrong, they never went up and I'm waiting for the replacements).

I'll get a photo or two up in the next day or so.
