Good Morning Friends,
Every year some one in the family and now especially on my wife's side since I am the only one left in my family, will have a pot luck get together and ask for an RSVP.
Since it is going to be pot luck why would an RSVP be necessary?
Respectfully,

If only a couple of families showed up, there wouldn't be much food. Or maybe there would be just a lot of beans.

If you don't know who's coming and what they plan to bring, the menu could be disappointing. When we have gatherings, food assignments are made to those who will come. Normally, however, if it's at our house, I'll set the menu, handle the main items, and delegate desserts and sides.

RSVP's to me would be to get a head count of the amount of people coming. Normally the "Put Lucks" we've been to, ask that you bring a specifc course, whether it be an appitizer, entree or desert. That way you get a rounded meal of some sort. It might suck if everyone brought cheese cake.

Not only so you don't have the same dish over and over, but also a head count for the hosting family. So they'll have enough plates and cups and ice and such to go around.

Good Morning All,
Again you didn't let me down as you all have mentioned the exact reason for the RSVP and quite well I'd say.
Well yesterday with the Indian summer day I and my hired help got all the lights strung around the house except the utility room and the kitchen gable and the return to the rest of the house. Today we are going to tackle setting the 6' tall air blown turkey in the back yard for Thanks Giving.
