It is always a surprise when you unwrap a gift. A few years ago a friend of mine cut down a large fruit Cherry tree, and unbeknownst me saved me a few pieces.
So last weekend was a nice day to fire up the chain saw and see what I got. There were 4 pc's including a 3 way crotch and the base/root section.
I opened them up with the chainsaw and then slabed everything at 1" with the BS, ruined one old blade cutting the root section.
Seems like there is going to be some interesting small project wood here.

Those are nice figures, Paladin.
Any ideas what they may become?

Boy, do I like that bookmatch in the third picture that will just have to be a table top of some sort.
Your friend is a very nice fellow to save them for you.

Regardless of what you do with it, what is your next step to assure that it won't split or warp? I have wondered if you have to coat the pieces with anchor seal and wait another year or you have a slow dry process that works well.
Sure is some beautiful wood.

Ron,
I painted all the end grain twice, put in 1/2" spacers & wrapped the stacks firmly with 3" shrink wrap tape. I put it in the garage for awhile just to let the stresses smooth out a little. I will bring it into the heated shop in the new year.
I find the wrap tape great stuff for managing small stacks of various wood, makes a tidy package, easy to move around and you can see what you have.
The MC is around 20% at present.
Most of this wood is going to be made into presentation wine boxes. Depending on how they look when I get them planed the large pieces will be door panels on a "Stickly" style hanging cabinet.

Thank you,
I have some spalted Apple that is in small 8" logs and has been drying for a couple of years. I used one piece, cut it up in smaller boards and made a project. I had some cracking and wondered what I could do to prevent it. I will now cut the next one into small boards, as you suggested, wrap them a half inch apart and let them dry for a few months. I appreciate your advise.
Ron

That's some great looking wood, I live on a cherry farm and have been cutting my own boards for a while now, you'll find that the cherry fruit wood is hard as could be.. nice save.
