Show us your favorite woodworking project

[ Edited ]

Hey, folks

To get the photo explosion going on the new software, let's compare some photos of your favorite woodworking project to date.

Upload a shot of your favorite thing that's come from your workbench, with a few words about what it is and why you like it so much.

The photo upload process is much like it was on the old platform.  Click that thing that's been referred to as the 'tree' icon, up at the top of the reply box and between the live link icon and the film icon, pretty much in the middle of the control buttons.

Seiler Keeper 1 (Large).jpgYou'll note that with this new software platform you can orient the photos to either the left, center or right hand sides.

This can make weaving a narrative thread a little more interestingly than just text... photo.... text... photo... etc.

Here I have selected the photo to be 'small' and I plopped it to the left.  I'm then able to write text to the right of the photo.   This can be helpful, as you can write a bit about your project and while people are reading they don't have to scroll back to the top to look at the photo, and then return to the text to read more.

Then for the next shot I've selected 'medium' and I've placed the photo "INLINE".   This keeps the text above or below the photo, and the picture is sized so that it's a bit easier to see.

Good Shot #7 (Large).JPG

Then for this last example, I've selected 'Large".

Again, these are just some options for you to think about when you're presenting your photographs to the group.

There's no right or wrong answer here... merely some choices based on how you'd like to display yoru photographs.

NOW THEN>>>>

Let's see some photos of your favorite project!

Re: Show us your favorite woodworking project

Greene and Greene StyleGreene and Greene StyleHello Matt,

As usual you have posted some more pictures of your fabulous contempory furniture an I truly like your style. As you know I am mostly into Arts and Crafts as well as contemporary piece however, following area couple of pictures of a couple of bathroom cabinets that I made for a client in Pomona, CA.

Well, surprise me as the picture fills the whole post. So unlike Matt mine it appears that until I can resize them all of my pictures will be taking up the entire page. I am goint to insert anothe Greene and Greene Style cabinet that went along with this one and I hope there is enough room for it.

Oops, I must have goofed somewhere so let me try it again.

Finished California Cabinets 006.jpg

Now this is better and the reason my first one ended up as it did was because I didn't listen to what was printed in front of me. Boy, do I like these forums as they allow us so much more than any other format before.

I made these two cabinets out of quarter sawn white oak and was able to find some hinges and pulls with an oriental flare to them which matches the Greene brothers style. As you look at the splines and square plugs you might notice that they look like Ebony. Would you believe that I used Black Walnut and stained them in black liquid shoe polish to gain the effect of Ebony.

This project was/is one of my better projects to date and I was more than pleased to burn my brand into the wood and after that I signed the pieces and dated them both.

I do hope you folks have enjoyed my pieces and the chit chat that went along with them.

Re: Show us your favorite woodworking project

Hi Matt.

I have not tried  posting  from the  "tree"  uploader yet. I was curious if the new software would support normal 640 x 480 size photos from a hosting site without distortting the picture or the printing in them  like the old software did so this is just a test.

This one is from Photobucket

And this one is from PictureTrail

OK , the one from Photobucket came up normal size. All my pictures in both Picturetrail and Photobucket are in 640 x 480 size . The one above from Photobucket came up normal and the one with the pens from PictureTrail came up reduced but not distorted  like it would in the other software .

I will try another one from Picturetrail and see if they all get reduced in size from there.

OK , I think I have just figured it out that the top picture has a wider landscape than the other two  and that is why it shows a little wider so pictures are  posting here normal  like in any other site. I am very pleased that the photos posted here now have the same definition and clarity   as they do on all other sites.

That is a big improvement and thanks a bunch for all the work that has gone into the new format. Sorry to see the  turning board gone. It was understandable with the scrollsaing board which was not very active at all  but the turning board was very active since so many scrollers have switched over to or added turning to their scrolling.

Re: Show us your favorite woodworking project

Hello William,

Very nice work my friend and the many times they will be used for what they are intended will be a smashing success. Congratulations on coming on the forums as I am sure there will be a lot to talk about when it goes live. There is nothing like a good learning experience.

Re: Show us your favorite woodworking project

I'm going to have to say this one was a winner:

A George Nakashima inspired bench.  The top is a live-edge piece of hard maple with both tiger and bird's eye features as well as a mineral streak.

The base is mahogany with a tiger maple accent joined by a crosspiece made of mahogany.

I think it's purty....

Re: Show us your favorite woodworking project

Quite a nice piece!

How did the legs attach to the underside of the slab?   I'd presume m+t joinery, but if so, how did you account for wood movement in the slab?

Re: Show us your favorite woodworking project

Actually, I moritsed a piece into the tops of the legs. then screwed up from underneath to attach the seat.

I didn't want to get into chopping anything with that board.. it was just too pretty....

Re: Show us your favorite woodworking project

So, sort of like a trestle up at the top, but which spanned the legs and which attached from the underside to the slab?

If so - got it!

Give that man a Cupie Doll!

Bingo.

I built it for an upcoming art show (January 2010). My neighbors came in to look at it and offered me - cash money - on the spot for it.

I sold it to them, but told them that I still have to enter it in the contest...  :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Show us your favorite woodworking project

Didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked, but I did finish the PurpleHeart table and then build a little Cherry and Maple table.

So here they are;
