varnish.
My own design.
I should add that the idea for the top rail came from an article in one of the recent FWW magazines.

Very nice design. Is the headboard attached to the bed r the wall? Look as though it is floating. Cool feature.

The headboard is attached to the bed. I thought about attaching it to the wall, but it would have been a pain if she wanted to rearrange her room.
