Made-from-scrap Bud Vase - Vase Supplier?

Hi all,

In the last issue there's a great little project that outlines how to build a Made-from-scrap Bud Vase.  I'm wondering where I can purchase the vase for this.  I'm in Canada, so a Canadian supplier would be appreciated.

Thanks

- Vaughn

I found them at Hobby Lobby for US $3.39 + tax. If you have a source up there be sure to measure the diameter of the glass before boring out the wood. I found variation from 1.938" to 2.060".

Wallmart has libbey vases for $1.00 each. I know as a Canuk it doesn't directly help you but any place that handles libbey glassware should be able to help. as a last resort perhaps "someone" from the states could mail you a few as a gift.

Re: Made-from-scrap Bud Vase - Vase Supplier?

Good Morning Vaughn,

First off welcome to the new WOOD ON LINE forums and we hope you continue coming back because there is a lot to learn from each and every one of them and plenty of experienced folks to answer most any question you may have. Yes, Hobby Lobby is one location for a sample vase or many others things. Last year I made some candle sconces and looked around till I found some coal oil lamp globes at a K Mart store and they fit the bill quite well. I first drilled a hole in the center of the base that ran from the back of the vertical board to mount it on the wall and under the shelf I installed a small corbel on each sconce in the Arts and Crafts fashion, then I cut a relief for the globe to rest in and as it turned out the 1/8" relief supported the globe so you didn't have to worry about the globe falling off.

I made quite a few of them and gave them to relatives and friends as a Christmas Gift. The only expense I had were the globes and candles which were 6" tall and about 7/8" round at the bottom and they fit snuggly into the hole I drilled for them. Sorry I don't have any pictures.

It doesn't take much to come up with an idea for gifts and it is a good way to get rid of some scrap wood.

Remember to keep your hands no closer to a spinning blade or bit than 6" for safety sake.

Respectfully,

I found the libbey vases at Michaels craft stores and they have locations in Canada.  I paid $1.99 USD for each.  The vases are not available online so you need to find a store close to you.  Here is their URL:
