How do you do it?

I have a Penn State ceiling mounted air cleaner over my work bench that has a mesh pre-filter and a sectioned bag filter.

How do you clean your air cleaner bag filter?

Re: How do you do it?

Hello Larry,

I have a friend who has one of those filters and after he washes the screen filter, he uses his shop vacuum to first get as much dust off the outside of the bag and then puts the nozzle into the bag with the brush attachment on the end and in about three hours he has it looking like new. At least that is what he says.

Remember to keep your hands no closer to a spinning blade or bit than 6" for safety sake.

Respectfully,

Hey Ralph and others.. Here's what I did today.

I have a shop vac with a long hose and wand (nozzle) on the end of the hose.

I drilled about 12 - 1/4" holes in the wand, attached the modified wand back on the hose, turned the vac on and inserted the wand into each cavity (formed by the strings) of the three section filter for a few moments and repeated this until all the cavities were clean.

I then cut two long strips of 1" wide plastic from a grocery bag and taped them to the top of the outlet grill.

Now when the air cleaner is on, the plastic strips are straight out horizontally, indicating the the air flow is back to normal because the bag filter is clean.

Larry, I do this a little different . Pull the inside corner of each pocket out and vacum. Push corner back in and repeat for each pocket,

I do like your idea as a guage of air flow and filter status.

Re: Hey Ralph and others.. Here's what I did today.

My DC has one humongous bag for fines, about six feet long and maybe two feet in diameter. It was intended to hang vertically, but I didn't want to waste floor space in my crowded shop-**bleep**-garage, so I have it horizontally under the ceiling, hung by fabric straps.

Its a real job to take it down and clean it, then rehang it.

The bag has a good sized zipper. After getting on suitable clothing, a hat and a respirator, I take it outside and shake the loose stuff out as well as I can, whacking the bag to get as much as I can in this initial phase.

Then I turn the bag inside out and, using a portable shop vac, I clean it up, turning it over several times.

I'm thankful it doesn't need to be done frequently.

Yes, I'm doing it on the concrete driveway, not the lawn. :smileyvery-happy:

I gotta say, I'm all for keeping the forums clean, but bleeping out every cr*p and d*mn starts to feel like we're being treated like children.  I say those words in front of my pastor without thinking twice!  It will especially be fun when they've come on this post and bleeped out even my starred out words.

The "bleeped out word was see-you-em, if it matters at all.

Ha, that's kind of funny!  That must mean that they're using an automatic remover?  Guess that word comes up on a list, despite the fact that it can have other meanings.

It's an automated software thing that does it's own little seek and destroy missions in the background.

I have to say that's actually kind of disappointing.  Like I said before, I'm all for keeping it family friendly.  But the idea that we have a censor in the background making sure we don't use any grown up words makes me feel a little violated.  Can't we trust that the people on here aren't going to be inappropriate?  We've done a pretty good job up till now.
