Hope Chest Build Along

Routing Bears Ears.jpgBears Ears cut.jpgAfter getting the hang of the Leigh D4R jig, and the Isoloc templates. I started the Hope Chest project today. The box is maple, and will have either walnut or purple heart accents. Haven't decided. It's for my Niece.

After simple milling to size, I finally took a deep breath, and routed the boards. Whew, glad that's over. That was certainly the "Money shot" in this project. The rest is basic box building. It will have a "secret compartment", something I enjoy doing on box projects.

The pic is a Pin rout set-up, then another showing all the boards routed.

Thanks for looking.

I bet warped noticed the bottom section of the two end panels. The part where you can see the end grain in the isolocs.  Is that part of secret compartment or where you will mount a drawer in the bottom of the chest?

Yes I noticed that but that's not my concern. What I was referring to was there NOT A SINGLE speck of dust anywhere. Makes a guy wonder who made those. LOL

Re: Hope Chest Build Along

That routing session made a lot of sawdust. Had to sweep up before my Cocker-Spaniel could lay down in it!!

The glued up end grain in the lower part of the side panels is where the draw front will be.  Couldn't figure out how to terminate the template routing with precision, so I just routed all the way across. Then glued up a sacrificial board and cut it off at the TS.

Next is stopped dado's for box and drawer bottoms.

That is looking good. I can't wait for the next steps.

Maybe my wife needs one of these. I need to show it to her.

Then I would have to have the D4r with isolocs templates.:smileyvery-happy:

Is that the new Super JIG, if so I thought it came with dust collection.

It looks to me that the dust collector is there, the hose connector is on the right side. I have it on my D4R and it works very well, Brian

Yea, I have the DC accessory kit, but didn't hook up the vac. Just as easy to do a quick sweep. I like the DC support, which holds the router better.

Re: Hope Chest Build Along

Routed the drawer bottom grooves this evening.  Had to be careful about blowing out one of the Isoloc joints.

Here is a pic of the gooves, and a shot of actual sawdust. :smileytongue:
