I am making a blanket chest from walnut and lyptus. I've found some support hinges to keep little fingers from being pinched in Rockler's most recent catalog. The question I am putting out is this, is it better to use lid stay torsion hinges or the toy box lid supports. (both are found on page 14 of the Oct 2009 catalog).
Thanks for taking the time to read.

Howdy, let me look at the catalog your referring to and I will see what it is and get back with you. Hang in there, others will chime in here soon as well.

I haven't used either of them, so I am not sure the difference. If you just read the info it sounds like either one would work.
The torsion hinge will hold it and lower it like a laptop lid.
The picture on the web site shows a child with their fingers on the edge.
Looks like the toybox hinge is a little cheaper.

Thanks for the reply. A friend had said that the torsion hinge had a plastic piece in it and that over time it could fail. I think the toy box lid would be best. Thanks again.

Theres alot of other hardware available, but I wouldn't just look at Rockler, There's alot of hardware manufacturers where you may find hardware that would be better suited than what is offered from Rockler, JMO..
