Steve: I just read your comments and advice on tinting pore filler on a recent post. I am going to start finishing a mahogany end table in aweek or so and am planning on using the Pore-o-lac oil base pore filler. Unfortunately, I'll have to order any finishing products and I' m not familiar with tinting products. Could you recommend a specific product, and comment on how to use it. I am planning on staining the wood. Could I just add stain to the grain filler? Thanks for any advice.
Bill W.

You can use Japan colors, dry pigment, or easiest to find, artists oil paint (don't get the very cheapest). Useful colors include burnt sienna (reddish), burnt umber (dark brown), van **bleep** (also dark brown but a little cooler). Raw umber and raw sienna have uses, as does yellow ochre. I suppose it could also be tinted with the same colors your local paint store uses to tint oil based paints.
