I like being e-mailed about additions to threads. BUT, it is overdone with every message to result in an e-mail. I'd much prefer getting one message and then have to check the web site for others. WOOD ought to prefer that too, since it would increase site traffic and exposure to ads.

What you guys are talking about already exists. It's just a matter of choosing the right KIND of email notification.
Go to 'MY SETTINGS" and then click on the 'SUBSCRIPTIONS & BOOKMARKS" tab.
The very first set of options is for how you'd like to be notified. The default is "immediate", which means that it'll send an email upon each and every update. And that's annoying if it's a hot topic.
Try one of the other intervals that are in that tab and see if they work better for you:

Thanks Matt!
I was not aware of those settings and just assumed that it was set up to being instantaneous. But as it is I will leave mine set for the default of notification for each post as I am online through out the day and everything goes into a dedicated folder so I can keep up with things. But I am sure that there are those who would prefer the daily notification so as not to have so many emails in their box.
